| We
recognize that each student has different areas of needed
focus, whether it is to improve grades, raise test scores,
or get ahead. A customized learning plan is created for
each student to meet these unique needs and to meet their
individual style of learning.
Getting Ahead: Assignments
are not limited to the current grade level of the student,
but to grade level as determined by a tutor/teacher, mastery
of an academic assessment, or successful completion of assigned
lessons.
Students are encouraged to accept challenges and to continually
strive for advancement.
| Steps
to achieving academic success: |
-
We discuss grades and the academic level of the
student at school, to bring continuity to the objectives
learned at school and PACE and to create a customized
lesson plan. Attitudes and behavior to school and
work are also important in understanding how to
best motivate the student. We consistently request
current report cards and any standardized tests
to be reviewed and updated in each student's personal
progress folder.
- A
computer assessment which is consistent with the
requirements as designed by the State of California
is given to the student in Language Arts, Reading,
Math, and Science. A writing sample is also done
to gauge the student's ability to organize paragraphs
and sentences, aptitude for creativity and conveying
ideas, and to test grammar and spelling skills.
- A
student work folder is provided that contains a
daily 8-minute creative writing activity, reading
worksheets, math worksheets, and other specific
worksheets focused on the targeted subject objectives.
- Interactive
objective-oriented lessons are assigned based on
the results of the academic computer assessment.
Internet-based online curriculum is also available
to students to practice outside of PACE.
-
Positive-reinforcement stamp card system used to
reward task and assignment completion.
-
Results and progress of assignments completed by
the student are reviewed with adults at the conclusion
of each daily visit.
